Private house, Shoreditch, London
The existing house is located within a conservation area, nestled within a very confined space between buildings on a prominent public thoroughfare near Columbia Road. As a result of addressing issues of privacy, the existing interior spaces lacked natural daylght and sunlight. The architectural idea was to create a new linear box spanning along the back of the house, which accommodates the kitchen and dining area. The outer walls to this volume are lined in oak and framed by a new large glass roof that brings daylight into the heart of the home. A new polished asphalt floor links the existing and new interior spaces.
